Amazing Race Quote of the Week:

…comes from the Weaver Family

One of the girls: Do you speak Anglais?
Taxi Driver: A bit.
Rolly Weaver: El Speedo.

The Loss…My Response…

When you walk through a storm hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of a storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never walk alone.

Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone...
YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE!!!

The Anticipation…

Well, as the work for yet another competition draws to a close, the timetable for the new semester reminds me that…yes…the holidays are drawing to an end.  Meaning, of course, that a whole new semester of all sorts of ups, downs, pros, and cons, is coming with the unstoppable force of a freight train to my doorstop in just about 2 weeks…

After looking through the timetable, I have a good feeling for next semester.  What this means, of course, is that I would probably collapse from exhaustion just about halfway through term 1.  Of course, it’s not the fault of the teachers, or the workload, or the way Mr. Timetable Guy arranges the timetable.  It’s the fact that on top of my regular scheduled workload, I still have to commit myself to various ‘design competitions’ and ‘industrial projects’ to boost my ‘portfolio’ so that next semester I can go to ‘Germany’ to watch the ‘World Cup’.  Also, this is my first semester as the ‘vice-president’ of the ‘NYP SDN Club’, meaning, basically, that I’ll have the amount of work and responsibilities to induce ‘suffocation’.  In addition, I’m also trying to get myself a ‘driving license’ so I can go drive an authentic ’63 ‘bug’ while I’m there.  This, of course, does not include my various commitments in church, such as ‘CCIS’ and Eddie’s ‘wedding’.

So yes it’s gonna be a tough semester.  So I’m gonna pray for myself and hope that you will pray for me as well because I’ll be praying for you guys as well for whatever’s left of my holiday and most probably beyond that as well.

God Bless and His Will be done.

WARNING: INCREDIBLY LONG POST

Modus Operandi: Complete

Yes, the chair is finally complete.  Wrapped up.  Done.  Ended.  Finished.  Over and done with.  The CD-ROM and the form have been put into an envelope, sealed, and mailed over.  So therefore it ends here as far as the results of the competition is concerned.  Overall, I’m quite content with the way the whole thing turned out.  I think the time we spent on it hasn’t been wasted, and I think the fact that we did it within such a short deadline is something that can only be attributed to the grace of our Lord.

Meanwhile, the chair, named ‘Modus Operandi’, is now nestled invitingly in a corner of my front porch, ready for anyone to come by and have a little rest on.  So if you do come over and have a sitting, might I say that it is a product of great effort and coordination that the chair could make its way back to my house.  The whole deal of the matter is, I thought the chair would fit into the back seat of my car, so I called for them and brought my chair down.  However, when it arrived, I realised it couldn’t fit into the rear seat, or the boot for that matter.  So now we had a little problem on our hands…nevertheless, my mother called Auntie Michelle (not Michy da Boss, if you were wondering…;p) to drive her van to the Poly to pick up the chair.  So she came all the way from the middle of her dinner to the Poly to pick up the chair, then drive it all the way back to our place, and then finally back to her dinner.  What a sacrifice!  So down here I’d like to offer my sincerest thanks to Auntie Michelle and Uncle Eric for taking the trouble to fetch my little chair.  Thank you very very much.

On the topic of thanksgiving, I’d also like to thank the well known Mr Lam for putting a possible dent on my route to university, by giving me a generous C+ for Entrepreneurship, even though we’ve (as in the class generally, including me) put in so much time and effort into your subject even though it isn’t even anything close to a core subject.  We’ve, collectively, made prototypes, mock-ups, posters, presentation boards; we even went out of our way to interview store owners, get contacts of distributors, find warehouses, rental space, rental costs, do all sorts of calculations and tables and graphs and figures even though we had no idea what a “cash flow” was, we slogged up and down, even sacrificed some of time from our core subjects to meet your requirements, and finally we put up a decent report and presentation.  To say we are disappointed is a grave understatement. However, being the nice Christian guy that I am, I will be kind and not block you from my MSN.

Huff, now that is out, I only have to worry about being prosecuted.  Well, as you would have probably deduced by now, the results are out, and I can only thank God for what I have gotten.  Even though I was struck down with appendicitis and dengue, I still managed to get decent results come the end of the year.  This I cannot claim any credit for, all glory goes back to God above, who gives freely in His divine wisdom and grace to imperfect people like me.  Thank You Lord…

Well, continuing in the same vein, there seems to be a sudden disappearance of Distinctions this semester.  It’s weird…I haven’t seen a single Distinction from anybody.  Not from me, not from Jool, not from XL, not from Jessie, not from Crawly, not from any of the usual suspects.  Unless by some bizarre stroke of fate someone like Sheng Kee snatches all 8 Distinctions, other than that I can find no other explanation for the phenomenon other than the fact that they have abolished Distinctions this semester.  And even then…that’s pretty weird.

Oh, and ‘Burnt Holidays’ is officially complete.  Your pre-orders should reach you pretty soon, but please pay first as we are running short of cash.  Meanwhile, if you haven’t pre-ordered, you may now put your name on the order list, which means you will have to pay the full price of $7.  Meanwhile, those who pre-ordered will only need to pay the pre-order price of $3.  Do continue supporting Fuzzy Green Grass, and we hope that you will be looking forward to our next album, ‘Steak & Onions’.  Thank you.

Monday

“Wah…Relaxing…Like Phuket Beach!”

Well, finally the structure of the chair is complete.  After a lot of slacking and a bit of drilling, we finally put the whole chair together in full functioning order.  After the final assembly, we had a few people have a little sit on our chair, among which included the rather vocal Mr. Ayob, who produced yet another gem of a quote as shown in the post title.  In short, it was almost addictive…once you sit on it…you don’t want to get up.  Not quite the epitome of comfort, but quite close if you ask me…

Well, tomorrow we will put the final touches on the chair, and finally wrap the whole thing up with the submission on Wednesday.  And hopefully, by the grace of God, our little bit of effort may produce favourable results in the competition.  Already being able to finish so much of the chair in so short a time is a minor miracle in itself, so even if we get anything from this competition, the glory goes rightly to the One up there, and I’m just content to be here for Him to shower His blessings on.

Meanwhile, for all of you out there preparing for your As and Os…what in the world are you still doing here?  Get muggin’! ;p

Five Reasons Why This Holiday Timing is the Worst Ever:

  1. No one brings a ball on Sundays……and therefore Sunday afternoons after Sunday school make you feel like the biggest waste because the weather is perfect but nobody brings a ball because it’s ‘exam period’…

  2. …you miss everything that happens during the ‘normal’ holidays and nothing happens now……like the Anglican Churches Camp, the Children’s Camp, the Miri Mission Trip, etc…it’s quite sad because you want to contribute but you can’t…the term’s either started or there’s nothing to help with…

  3. …all that depressing exam talk kinda gets to you……everyone’s talking about what papers they have coming up…and how screwed their Prelims were…it kinda puts a downer on your day…not that I blame them of course…it’s not their fault…it’s just the overall…‘stressfulness’ they exude…and I guess it’s only natural in this period…

  4. …everybody’s studying while you’re actually putting effort trying to find something to do…and they want a piece of you because of it……you’re just bumming around the house…meanwhile, everybody else is working their socks off while you’re trying to find something to do…I’d be surprised if they don’t want a piece of me…

  5. …and you feel guilty about it……well, as much as I have the right to say I’ve worked my socks off the last semester and so I deserve this time to slack, ha ha ha…it’s still quite weird going through this period of time when everybody is so stressed and I’m just so uncomfortably relaxed…and to be honest I feel quite guilty that everybody is going through such a difficult time and I’m just relaxing away…but of course they’re not to blame…it’s not like they’re purposely trying to make me feel bad…in fact they’ve been nicer than expected…it’s just the whole…atmosphere…of tension…

Oh, and just a footnote…yesterday’s piano thingy was really by the grace of God…by His grace…somehow the keyboard changed its sound and it fit perfectly…and for the whole day…my fingers were like possessed…it was really moving by the Spirit, and I thank You Lord, that You have blessed me so greatly, that I could honour Serene Jie Jie and Jeffrey Kor Kor and glorify You through Your gift of music in me…thank You Lord…
