And It All Went Badly Wrong...

It started out OK...a game of table tennis, a little chat over dinner...it was enjoyable, building up to what could be a great night of fellowship...then...

...I'm sorry...I'm sorry I didn't stop you when I had the chance...I'm sorry I didn't take your stuff when I saw it coming...Most of all, sorry that even after that I didn't do anything...I'm sorry I just stood there drinking my water...I'm sorry I just looked at you vent it all out in the water...I'm sorry I didn't even say a word to you after that, even when I could...I'm sorry I just stood far away and watched you cry...I'm sorry that for all the things I could have done...I should have done...and yet I didn't do...I'm sorry that all I thought about was about me and my face and making sure I didn't go in...I'm sorry I broke my promises to myself...I guess that's one of the worst kinds of promises to break...I'm sorry I chickened out instead of helping...I'm sorry at that vital moment I just couldn't take that step forward...instead I stepped back into inconspicuity...I'm sorry...

I guess I may just cry myself to sleep tonight...not because of anything you've done to me...but because of all the things I never did for you...

Tuesday

SHIOK!

Finally, some enjoyment after 8 weeks of slogging it out.

It all started on Sunday, with the afternoon game of Captains' Ball in the church carpark. Boy was THAT fun...reprised my highly successful role as the goalkeeper, kept a clean sheet for a nice long time, went all the way up to 3-0 or 4-0 can't quite remember, then finally conceded the undefendable. Then went up while Ben took over...marked Isabel until she got so fed up she blurted "I can't do anything with this guying standing over me for 24 hours!" to which I replied "Sorry ma'am, it's my job..." Haha so continued to loom over Isabel and then later Ian. Then a final push at the 'posts' and finished the game 10-6. A fitting end to an exciting match with many a dented car hood.

Later, went to watch the Rainbow show with Michy and the Doc. Had an interesting chat before the show started...we were crapping about names, and about how Michy almost died trying to write her chinese name when she was young, and considering names like Ignatious (not Ignitious, you fellow car freaks...) and Theophilus, or maybe even Malachi, Mahalalal, or even Salmon. Of course, you can't have a conversation like this without including the famous NIE lecturer by the 'tasteful' name of Chew Shit Fun, or the great brazillian, Dr F*ck. Of course, then we looked at the programme and found that Rev. Lee's voice teacher was a certain Lyndon van de Pump. Man, should have done some research before the concert, could have really spiced up the conversation... So then, listened to the concert, was not bad. The singing wasn't fantastic like the VJC style, but the arrangements and the order of the songs, and also the whole thought behind it, made this one touching concert. Well, who needs the best choir when your material is inspired by God?

Then, of course, Monday. Reached Harbourfront MRT at 9:55 am, while waiting for the rest of the class to arrive. Instead, it was 0503 who arrived. By 10:20, I was the only one from my class there, while they had about 10 already. Eugene went up to get some bread, the brought it down to the station. Zhiyong took a bite, when immediately there was an announcement. "Please do not eat in the station, thank you." Zhiyong just stoned there in shock, then, and I am not making this up, dropped his bread back into the bag. So he went out to finish it up then came back. Then Jonathan was fiddling around with the volleyball. The same voice hollered through the intercom, "Please do not play with your balls in the station, or we will confiscate them." We tried very hard not to laugh. Well, they eventually left at 10:55, while I waited with my contingent of 0402 classmates, of which at that time there were...four. Well, we also eventually went up for lunch and off we went to Palawan beach. Played some volleyball, then a wee bit of football with Sian Lee and Wen Jun. Not bad for first timers, and pretty good for girls. Well, after that then the rest of the class started streaming in. Then, it started to drizzle. Well, no biggie we said, and we played Captains' Ball in the shelter. Haha, good choice to go to Palawan beach! That was even more fun. They outsmarted my role as the keeper, and we were way down early on. So I pushed up to join the attack, and boy that was when the fun started. It was a blisteringly fast paced match, with some crunching tackles from the likes of Laifung and Beizi. Yes, those two cute, usually demure little girls morphed into ball-hugging men-barging tigresses with some bite, not forgetting the other girls who also got caught up in the heat of the action. Meanwhile, Zhen Lin sure knew how to use his height and reach and basketball pedigree to great effect, while Zam showed some great tactical awareness and ball skills, sometimes even dribbling on the ground to confuse the opposition. Overall, a brilliant fast-paced game that was incredible fun. After that, took a breather as the rain started to pour. Zam and some of the rest started making rivers under the shelter for the water to pass through. Was quite fun seeing the water flow at speed down the river and eating at the bunds, meandering down and under the Giger tunnel, and out of the shelter. The rest of the day went by without much else event...another round of volleyball and a swim, and we were back on the mainland.

Went to Pastamania for dinner with our long-lost classmate Helena, who was her usual sarcastic self. Had an interesting meal at the 12 seater table, with an even more interesting phototaking session. After 2 photographs, it seems that the same 3 people were always blur. Stories of the paranormal started floating around, until one wipe of the lens solved the problem. Well well, much ado over nothing. So, after a trip down the NEL, that ended the night.

Today was quite fun too. After Illustrator/Photoshop class, we went down to Orchard for a movie. Wanted to watch the Mindhunters, but we were a wee bit late as we were a wee bit draggy in deciding which show to watch. So we decided on the Fantastic 4 at 7:30. Which of course meant I could detour to Far East to taste the best Fried Rice in the world I've ever eaten. The show itself...was entertaining, but not fantastic. If you're there for the laughs, you'll be satisfied. If you're expecting more, you'll be disappointed. Well, I guess that wraps up this update, onward to the rest of this holidays, and hopefully I'll get back some momentum by next week...

Saturday

Feeling Hungry?

Whether you're craving sweet chocolate or barbecued sausages, we've got something for you...

Just watch out for terrorists.

Well, well, well...

It's the last day of the term, and I'm going into my one week term break, and I've SO MANY things to share with you which I have conveniently forgotten. So I'll get back to you when I've remembered what it is that I want to blog about.

OK I have a rough idea. I know I wanted to say something about the "thumbdrive saga", but I guess...I'm an easily forgiving person. Also, my first term projects are finally over after many sleepness nights (many of them consecutively) and after tonight's presentation, I can finally look up to the One up there and say with a grin, "Fine, You win..."

I know there's something else to write but I'd figure I'd better be getting some well needed rest first...

One of the most intriguing songs i've ever heard...

All Along the Watchtower

"There must be some way out of here," said the joker to the thief,
"There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief.
Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth,
None of them along the line know what any of it is worth."

"No reason to get excited," the thief, he kindly spoke,
"There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke.
But you and I, we've been through that, and this is not our fate,
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late."

All along the watchtower, princes kept the view
While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too.

Outside in the distance a wildcat did growl,
Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl.

This is my personal interpretation of this song, of course with the guidance of the Holy Spirit...

The joker is the apostle John, while the thief is Jesus, who "stole" us from the grasp of Satan.

"There must be some way out of here," said the joker to the thief,
"There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief.
Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth,
None of them along the line know what any of it is worth."

John says he wants out of this confused world (possibly war), where the people of the world take his words and yet do not know its true value.

"No reason to get excited," the thief, he kindly spoke,
"There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke.
But you and I, we've been through that, and this is not our fate,
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late."

Jesus kindly says that there is no need to be alarmed, for the people of the world take life lightly.

You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.
- Matthew 24:6

However both of them know the true value of life, which cost Jesus His own life on the cross to give us the true life, eternal life, so they know how to treasure it. So then Jesus says He is going to reveal the truth, for the time of His second coming is near.

'Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.'
- Revelations 1:3

All along the watchtower, princes kept the view
While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too.

The princes are the faithful sons of the King, our Father God in heaven. We who are called to keep watch for the second coming.

42"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
- Matthew 24:42-44

The women and barefoot servants are those who used to keep watch, but have since left.

Outside in the distance a wildcat did growl,
Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl.

The growl of the wildcat are the "birth pains" before the coming.

7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.
- Matthew 24:7-8

The two riders are the two beasts mentioned in the Book of Revelations.

And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on his horns, and on each head a blasphemous name.
- Revelations 13:1

Then I saw another beast, coming out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon.
- Revelations 13:11

23At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it. 24For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. - Matthew 24:23-24

So I tell you all, all who are along the watchtower, keep watch, keep the view, and do not just come and go. Keep the faith, brothers and sisters in Christ!

After as much thorough and extensive research as could be gathered from a leisurely bowl of ban mian at Food Junction, Crawldaddy and I proudly bring to you...

The Top 10 Songs Not To Audition for Singapore Idol With:

10. Awesome God - Michael W. Smith
I love this song, but I just can't imagine ANYONE ever singing this for an audition, and I'm not even talking about the religious connotations. 'Our God is an awesome God, He reigns from heaven above with wisdom, power and love, our God is an awesome God. Our God is an awesome God, He reigns from heaven above with wisdom, power and love, our God is an awesome God. Our God is an awesome...'

9. Lonely - Akon
I'm sure sounding like a chipmunk on helium is the best impression anyone can give the judges.

8. I Shot The Sheriff - Eric Clapton
'I shot the sheriff, but I didn't shoot the deputy...' Brilliant lyrics which would have been much better with an actual melody.

7. Final Countdown - Europe
Actually wouldn't be too bad...if people could resist the urge to sing the synth riff. '...it's the Final Countdown, papaPAAA PAAA, papabupbupBAAAAAAAAAA...'

6. Macarena - Los Del Rio
A melody would be nice.

5. Toxic - Britney Spears
OK, if the melody is anything like this, then might as well forget the melody. At some parts actually sounds like Crawldaddy scraping his guitar string with his pick. *shudder*

4. Rollin' - Limp Bizkit
You know you've got a great song under you when the only word sung is 'Rollin'' and the whole melody consists of one note.

3. Who Let the Dogs Out - Baha Men
Another song with such deeply meaningful and heartfelt lyrics as 'woof, woof, woof.'

2. The Name Game - Shirley Ellis
I cringe everytime I hear or see anything even remotely close to this song. I even had to go through psychiatric therapy to remove all traces of this song from my memory after doing research on it. And I'm not even a judge.

1. Tequila - The Ventures
*45 second pause* 'TEQUILA!' *45 second pause* 'TEQUILA!'...

Some thoughts...

You know, I was just thinking, after the BGR talk, about the spiritual elder thing. I was thinking, I mean, being the Mr Bible Person in my class, mainly due to the fact that I was the only Christian, of course now with Jace and Zelda converted that makes it 3, but considering I have the Christian background, I'm considered the one with the answers, the one with the perfect life, the one with no worries, Mr Holy. Of course, I'm nowhere near that, but it made me wonder, since I'm acting as the spiritual elder for my class, why is it that it has only taken me until now to realise that I need a spiritual elder too? Maybe it's the fact that I've never really hit a wall yet, or the fact that I grew up spiritually independentally, or maybe something else I've missed. Well, had a chat with my mother over lunch, I think it's about time that I become spiritually accountable to someone. I realise I'm toeing a dangerous line currently, but then again, it's not what I want that's important, it's what the Lord wants that's more important than anything. Well, keep praying for me, that if He has set apart someone to be my spiritual elder, that this will be revealed in His timing, whenever that may be. Something tells me this could be one of the biggest steps of my spiritual life.

This Week in The League:

Tijah, who was on hot form last week, is starting to cool off a bit. Meanwhile, Sian Lee, Joseph and Alvin have stepped up their game, with Wen Ning close behind. At the other end, Sheng Kee, form player of the week, pulled off a couple of spectacular upsets to push him back to a decent mid-table spot, while Cao Yang isn't doing himself many favours. The rest of the league crowd the middle of the table, with some acceptable but not spectacular performances in this early stage of the season. Only time will tell if any of these will find a surge of form in the latter stages of the season and clinch the title this season, or whether the favourites will continue to dominate throughout the season.
