DD0402 League Update

As the new season gathers momentum, we look back on last season and look forward to what the new season brings. The race for top spot was eventually won by Sian Lee, although Alvin cut it real close, and so did Wen Ning, Joseph and Jessie to really keep things competitive at the top of the table. Hamizan continued to show glimpses of his talent, but disappointed overall. Meanwhile, Zhen Lin, the workhorse of the league maintained his position in the top half of the table, but early signs in the new season may see him experience a drop this season.

Early signs show the usual suspects hogging the top of the table, with Khatijah the dark horse surging ahead of the chasing pack. Sian Lee and Wen Ning are expected to keep up the pressure, while Alvin, showing some glimpses of quality despite having an uninspiring season thus far, is expected to find his feet sooner rather than later in the season. However, it is still early days and it's still fair game to everyone in the league.

Meanwhile, feel free to vote in the poll and post your thoughts and predictions on the new season in the tagboard as well as the comment box. Bring on the new season!

Psalm 34

19 A righteous man may have many troubles,
but the LORD delivers him from them all;

20 he protects all his bones,
not one of them will be broken.

And so with that message of faith...

I'm finally back to playing goalkeeper. Was 2 minutes away from a clean sheet on my second full appearance after my finger injury when I conceded a silly goal that trickled in, but other than that, was pleased with my performance. One on ones as usual was up to par, saving from both Reuben and Gabriel in those situations for most of the match, and also considering I didn't really have a defence. Reach for high balls was OK, although handling could do with some work. Distribution should improve with experience, so I must say that I'm looking forward to my second stint as a goalkeeper, and most importantly, a righteous one.

Much Ado About Nothing

Just came back after blowing 10 bucks and one and a half hours off a haircut. I still don't get it. Why do people spend precious time and pay good money for an itchy neck and hair on their food? Not to mention I still look pretty much the same except even hairier, and in all the wrong places. And there's hair everywhere. On my shirt, on my towel, in my food, on my work, EVERYWHERE! Where's the sense in that?

Anyway, just an update, life's pretty much the same; "the same" meaning of course "extremely busy". So naturally I won't have much time to blog, but the good news is that the pictures from my recent birthday party have finally been procured, and I will try (read: TRY) to find some time to get these scanned and uploaded onto my photo album for all to see. Thank you all for your patience.

Dun Prey Prey...

Just got back from PCK the Musical. It was...different from what I expected. The story was good even though the plot had more holes than swiss cheese. Humour wise, it lived up to its expectations. By a mile the funniest part was when the Feng Shui Man (Sheikh Haikel) started throwing confetti and "showering his blessings" on the audience and he stops in front of the bishop. "I sense a stronger power in my presence. I am weak, I am a small fry...My gosh, there are TWO of them!" Of course, he was referring to Bishop John Chew and Rev Siow. Meanwhile the rest of the audience was rolling with laughter.

But I really liked the part where PCK saved Frankie Foo's life. Made me think...Jesus saved our lives when we were still enemies. Have we fully accepted His salvation? Or have we looked at Him and shouted "Why are you so stupid?" Or even asked with a snide grin "What do you have to gain by saving my life?" You can say Frankie Foo is the ultimate villain, but in the end he still surrendered what belonged to PCK back to him. Have we surrendered what is God's back to Him? Have we surrendered our lives back to Him, or we conning ourselves that our own lives obviously belong to us? We can't even make another strand of hair grow on our scalp, let alone claim ownership of this life we have. So have we surrendered our life to Him, or are we really worse than Frankie Foo?

Annual Fellowship of the Kings of Suanalogy

I took a break from my busy work schedule to attend the "Annual Fellowship of the Kings of Suanalogy" a.k.a. the SAJS 6-1 1999 Class Gathering. All present were in delightfully sharp form and the jabs came thick and fast. Those present today were:

(in order of surname)
Julian Chan
Chan Zikai
Alvin Chee
Kaanthan
Lee Kim Soon
Vignesh Raman
Alvin Tay
Tang Meng Kit
Mr Thomas Tham
Samuel Yeo

The hot topic today was Julian's choice of hairstyle.

Mr Tham: "Wow Julian, you look electrifying."

Mr Tham: "So Julian, how is it at your father's model helicopter shop?"
Meng Kit: "It was hair-raising."

Other topics ranged from American politics (with which Vignesh has a first hand experience of course)...

Vignesh: "I bet you there won't be Democratic president within the next 20 years."
Alvin: "You never know, all it takes is one Democrat with brains..."

...to typical low-brow jabs.

Zikai: "Well, my friends were..."
Meng Kit: "You have friends ah?"

Julian: "Don't worry Mr Tham, you'll be invited to at least 10 wedding dinners in the next 10 years."
Zikai: "Ya, and all 10 of them will be yours, Julian..."
Alvin: " '...and I would like to thank my 3 current wives who are joining us tonight...' "

These just scratch the surface of the amount of suanalogy thrown around tonight at the gathering. So that settles my annual suanalogy tune-up...

Wednesday

American Dream

All work no play may have made Jack a dull boy
But all work no God has left Jack with a lost soul
But he's moving on full steam
He's chasing the American dream
And he's gonna give his family the finer things

"Not this time son I've no time to waste
Maybe tomorrow we'll have time to play."
And then he slips into his new BMW
And drives farther and farther and farter away

So he works all day and tries to sleep at night
He says things will get better;
Better in time

'Cause he works and he builds with his own two hands
And he pours all he has in a castle made with sand
But the wind and the rain are comin' crashing in
Time will tell just how long his kingdom stands
His kingdom stands

His American Dream is beginning to seem
More and more like a nightmare
With every passing day
"Daddy, can you come to my game?"
"Oh Baby, please don't work late."
Another wasted weekend
And they are slipping away

'Cause he works all day and lies awake at night
he tells them things will get better
It'll just take a little more time

He used to say, "Whoever dies with the most toys wins"
But if he loses his soul, what has he gained in the end
I'll take a shack on a rock
Over a castle in the sand

Now he works all day and cries alone at night
It's not getting any better
Looks like he's running out of time

'Cause he worked and he built with his own two hands
And he poured all he had in a castle made with sand
But the wind and the rain are coming crashing in
Time will tell just how long his kingdom stands
His kingdom stands

All they really wanted was You
All they really wanted was You
All they really wanted was You

You are nice but they take you for granted...be nice anyway. You do your best but it's never enough...do it anyway. It's between you and God, not you and them anyway...
