Tuesday

Well well well, it has been a week since returning to the IDS, and I must say I'm starting to adjust to life back here pretty nicely. Perhaps, even the music. I must say that some of the lyrics certainly hit home, from the awe-inspiring to the simple but deeply meaningful, so, with great pride in my heart, I bring you...

Top 5 Most Meaningful Lyrics Played in IDS 2:

5. "Brazil...lalalalalalalalaaaa..."
A brilliant lyric that truly exudes the many rhythmic and thematic naunces of the 'samba' style that the Brazillians are so synonymous with. The continuous use of alliteration in the second half of the lyrics is a gracefully used literary device.

4. "Woah woah...boom boom boom boom"
An action-packed lyric here that seems to be taken straight out from a John Woo movie. The strong rhythmic element accentuates the excitement implied by the lyric, whilst still capturing the initial feelings of apprehension and imbalance in a tense situation.

3. "Jump...jump...jump...jump...jump..."
A theme very much in vogue in these parts. The lyric concisely captures the intent of the piece of music, as well providing a powerful sense of movement. Another fantastic use of alliteration in emphasising the effect of the lyric.

2. "Go cheetah, get banana..."
An exploration into the behaviours of animals in their natural habitat, and the impulse of humans to control what is essentially uncontrollable. Also an exploration into the dietary preferences of animals and humans, and their correlation. Could also be seen as a extension of the man-dog relationship into a man-cheetah relationship. A lyric that is concise and full of depth.

1. "Calcutta...taxi taxi taxi in...Calcutta..."
A deep and complex lyric providing profound insight into the transportation situation in India. In addition to the geographical emphasis on the capital of India with the linguistic capital emphasis on its subject, the lyric also addresses the congestion and sheer density of public transportation available in the country.

OK enough bull for now, don't forget to buy tickets to Storm in a Fishbowl!

Roaring To An IDS Near You, Shorts & All!

Yes, my brethren, my Industrial Attachment Programme with Singapore Technologies Kinetics is now all but over. What that means is, of course, that I WILL FINALLY BE ABLE TO USE MSN IN THE DAY! Haha! Of course that also means that I’ll have to go back to school, which means, of course, NO MORE LONG PANTS! Haha!

Obviously, at the risk of sounding wheelchair-bound lame, it also means that I probably won’t ever step into STK ever again. While to be perfectly honest I never really liked the place…or rather the lack of freedom in that place, I’ll still remember the experience there…and I will miss the people I’ve met there, my sups, my IA room pals, recre room pals, the cleaner auntie, the super-pro soccer uncle, and of course the unforgettable Eric. I’ll also miss the times we spent, in the recre room playing ping pong, carom, etc. as well as those times just bumming around and engaging in casual conversation in the IA room, or in the canteen, or when we eat out…these memories I’ll take with me as I go back to school next week. May we meet each other again someday. Maybe I will make that Powerpoint after all…

But of course, we should not be looking forever at our rear view mirror, but instead through our windscreen, where we will realise, probably, that we’re still sitting in our garage, mainly because we haven’t taken our driving test yet. But of course this is an insignificant detail. But we have digressed, naturally. What I have been trying to get at, basically, is that I WILL BE BACK IN BLOCK M! SHORTS & ALL! So to commemorate this joyous occasion, we bring you…

10 Songs That Could Have Been, But For The Sake Of Good Taste Didn’t

10. Poems, Prayers and Shorts
9. Can’t Help Falling in Shorts
8. Some Broken Shorts Never Mend
7. Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Shorts
6. Always Look on the Bright Side of Shorts
5. I’m Gonna Find My Own Shorts
4. Accidentally in Shorts
3. Folsom Prison Shorts
2. House of the Rising Shorts
1. He Ain’t Heavy, He’s In Shorts
